FACULTY OF HUMANITIES

LECTURER

The National University of Lesotho invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Lecturer in African Languages & Literature

Minimum qualifications and requirements

The applicant must hold an MA degree in African Languages and Literature with specialisation in either Oral Traditions or Sesotho fiction.  Acquisition of a PhD will be an added advantage. S/he should be able to teach: Sesotho Poetry, Drama, Fiction, Oral Literature, Creative Writing and Research Methods and be able to supervise B.A. projects. Should be fluent and proficient in Sesotho. A high level of fluency and/or basic knowledge in either isiZulu or isiXhosa will be an added advantage. Should possess at least one year teaching experience at tertiary level. A record of publication and participation in research would be necessary.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Supervision of students’ projects;
  • Designing programmes and courses for undergraduate;
  • Teaching at undergraduate and;
  • Participating in research programmes of the Department/Faculty;
  • Performing other duties required by the Department.
  • Develop and promote scholarly excursions.
  • Promote and strengthen academic linkage between the Department and other stakeholders.
  • Initiate and implement progressive strategies for the betterment of the Department.
  • Performing other duties required by the Department.
  • The incumbent will be expected to carry out the teaching, engage in academic citizenship.

Remuneration:

The University offers competitive salaries and other benefits.  The terms and conditions of service will be on contract basis for expatriates and permanent and pensionable for locals.

 

Employment type

Permanent and pensionable/gratuitable terms for Locals, and Two Years’ Contract for Non-Locals with a possibility of renewal.
