Faculty of Social Sciences
Welcome to the Faculty of Social Sciences
As the Dean of the largest faculty at the National University of Lesotho (NUL), I feel privileged and honoured to lead a Faculty that plays such an important role in society. Social Science is a general academic discipline covering a wide range of interrelated curriculum and programmes. In its broadest sense, social science is the study of society and the manner in which people behave and influence the world around them. It seeks to draw attention to problem areas and alternative courses of action within society itself. At NUL, FSS offers disciplines such as political science and international relations, administrative sciences, sociology and social work, economic and business sciences, and statistics and demography. Our programmes require critical and divergent thinking, which prepare students to ‘learn how to learn’. Our programmes provide research and knowledge vital to government, business and non-governmental organisations.
The FSS is fully aware of its role in the changing society and adopts digital and innovative strategies in the delivery of requisite skills to its learners. It prides itself in being a student-friendly faculty, the ‘home away from home’. We encourage our students to use all the resources available to them, both within the faculty and the NUL. We are here not only to help our students exceed their academic objectives, but also to enrich their experiences by joining the student organisations that shares their specific interests. We encourage our students to work harder and smarter, and to take advantage of what the faculty has to offer to them.
