On 19 November, 2024, NUL through the Faculty of Law held an inspiring high school outreach event organised by the university’s World Trade Organization (WTO) Chair. This initiative aimed to introduce high school learners to the world of international trade and its associated career opportunities while fostering academic interest in the subject. The event was held in the Netherlands Hall, Roma campus

The event brought together lecturers from the seven Faculties and the Institute of Extra Mural Studies (IEMS), as well as other key units and departments within the university. These experts delivered insightful lessons and presentations, offering students a comprehensive understanding of international trade dynamics.

Students were also guided on choosing academic pathways to build successful careers in these fields – with lecturers providing valuable insights on NUL’s academic offerings that support the development of future trade specialists. At some point, the sessions were interactive and engaging, with high school students given the opportunity to ask and being asked questions and branded goodies and freebies were given to the most participating students.

By hosting this outreach, the NUL WTO Chair underscored the importance of preparing young minds to tackle the complexities of international trade and its influence on global development. The initiative also demonstrated the university’s commitment to nurturing future leaders who will contribute to Lesotho’s and the global trade landscape.

When wrapping up the event, the Master of Ceremonies, Advocate Thuto Matobo from the Faculty of Law, (also a member of the WTO Chair) expressed her hope that the participants will continue their educational journey at NUL, contributing to the growth and development of Lesotho’s trade sector in the future.
