As part of commemorating the African Women’s month, the NUL Non Academic Workers Union (NAWU) women gathered together in the ISAS Auditorium on the 31st August, 2022, in a prayer session for women and against children abuse in the society. The theme for the day was ‘Enough with brutal killings of women and girls’.
When officially opening the ceremony, NUL Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Olusola Fajana indicated that the figures are bad, high death rate, inadequate health cover, criminalities, rape, assassination, high dropout rates especially among secondary school pregnant students, police brutality and many others.
“The National University of Lesotho also needs deliverance and I urge everyone in every household to pray and also seek the peace of Jerusalem. We should not only pray when we are in trouble but make prayer our full-time job.”
NUL student and poet, Kano Lebajoa delivered a very touching poem which left everyone in the hall emotional and teary.
Meanwhile, the President of NUL Student Representative Council. Tumo Tsanyane also appreciated the power of prayer adding that that the reason why he knows how to pray and believes in prayer is because he was raised by a woman.
“At some point when the University Management was not responsive to students’ demands, I would fast for 3 days and everything that I requested happened because of prayer,” Tsanyane stated.
In his closing remarks, the President of NAWU, Mr. Namane acknowledged the main purpose of the event and highlighted that he fully understands why the NAWU women were gathered on that particular day.
“We are here because of the heartless actions that are happening which negatively impact on the lives of children and women worldwide and as men, we are really worried and pained. Even in our families, we are not trusted as men because of what some men are doing out there”, Mr. Namane asserted.
The event was hosted by Mrs. ‘Matieho Ngatane–Lamula and Dr. Fr. Felix Molumeli led the prayer. The event was graced with the presence of NAWU women from different faculties and units of the University.
