National University of Lesotho, in partnership with the British High Commission in Lesotho have embarked in a project to create a Framework for Digitization Standards in Lesotho.
A workshop on the development the framework was held from 17-18 March, in Maseru.
The project aims to strengthen the national capacity to digitise and preserve Lesotho’s documentary heritage and create a framework for national standards for digitisation.
Among the many activities, the project will conduct a survey of the needs of institutions regarding preservation and digitisation (needs and dreams) in heritage institutions in Lesotho.
Rigorous training programmes will be conducted on preservation for digitisation and practical introduction to digitisation in libraries and archives.
The project will also hold a series of workshops to develop a national framework for digitisation of cultural heritage with a focus on documentary heritage.
Participants were librarians, curators, archivists, documentalists, researchers and knowledge preservation managers drawn from educational institutions, private entities, state and community libraries.
