NUL Graduations Ceremony takes a new Shape

The National University of Lesotho (NUL), for the first time, held a week-long Graduation Ceremony starting on the 24th October, 2022 and ending on 28th October, 2022 for the 47th Convocation for the Award of Certificates, Diplomas and Conferment of Degrees. The split activities of the ceremony were held both at the Roma campus and the Institute of Extra-Mural Studies (IEMS) Maseru campus on various days. In this new mode, the Graduation Ceremony was staggered over five (5) days in a week, split according to Faculties.

The first day was dedicated to the Opening of the Convocation by the NUL Chancellor, His Majesty King Letsie III. This was followed by official speeches by the Chairman of Council, the Vice-Chancellor and a representative of graduands. The morning session ended with the conferment of Doctoral and Honorary degrees. From the afternoon of Day One, the Faculty-specific ceremonies began with the Faculty of Agriculture. Other Faculties and the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) followed in the subsequent days during the week. Due to a clash with a national event, IEMS ceremony was postponed to the 10th November, 2022.

The aim of a staggered ceremony was to give graduands a chance to enjoy the ceremony in smaller manageable groups rather than a large group, all at once, as has been the case in the past. This change enabled NUL to attend to the graduands with the dignity and respect they deserved on their special days. The 47th Convocation theme was “Building and sustaining resilience against all odds”. Each faculty and institute/centre invited a guest speaker to give a key-note address that would motivate and uplift the graduands as indicated below.
