The National University of Lesotho (NUL), through the Moshoeshoe I Institute of Peace and Leadership, hosted the 2025 Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust (ATMDT) Annual Values-Based Leadership 2nd Lecture on Tuesday, 18 November, at the Roma Campus.
Held under the theme “Serving with Dedication and Loyalty as a Value for Successful Leadership,” the lecture drew a vibrant audience of students, academics, professionals, and community members eager to explore the importance of ethical and service-driven leadership.
Renowned nursing scholar and healthcare innovator Dr. Amelia Kekeletso Ranotsi delivered this year’s keynote address. Drawing from her extensive contributions to Lesotho’s health sector, Dr. Ranotsi underscored the significance of dedication, integrity, and ethical conduct in building strong and sustainable professions. She emphasized that these values form the bedrock of effective leadership across all fields. Her message resonated deeply with attendees, reinforcing her stature as one of the country’s leading voices in healthcare leadership.
In his welcoming remarks, NUL Vice-Chancellor Professor Olusola Fajana reaffirmed the university’s commitment to nurturing leaders who prioritize service and moral responsibility. He reminded participants that true success is measured not by personal accolades but by a sincere commitment to serving others with integrity and purpose. Professor Fajana noted that this year’s lecture offered an inspiring platform for reflection and encouraged the audience to engage actively in the discussions.
Reflecting on the significance of hosting the Archbishop Makgoba Lecture for the second consecutive year, Professor Keneuoe Anacletta Motšoene, Director of the Moshoeshoe I Institute of Peace and Leadership, highlighted the evolution of the lecture’s themes. She observed that while last year’s discussion centered on integrity, this year’s focus on dedication and loyalty speaks directly to the essential values needed for impactful leadership, especially in the health sector. She added that, this year, the lecture forms part of the NUL 80th Anniversary celebrations.
Leadership, she noted, extends beyond positional authority and academic achievements – it requires unwavering commitment to service and the upholding of professional values.
Delivering the vote of thanks, Professor ‘Maseabata Ramathebane, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, expressed deep appreciation to all who contributed to the success of the event. She commended the collaborative efforts of organizers, partners, and participants in strengthening what has become a growing tradition of ethical leadership dialogue at NUL.
Now in its second year at NUL, the Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Leadership Lecture continues to grow as a meaningful platform for promoting values-driven leadership in Lesotho. The strong turnout of students, researchers, academics, and staff underscored the university’s commitment to shaping leaders who embody integrity, dedication, and loyalty in their service to society.
