National University of Lesotho will offer free counselling services to the SOS Children’s Villages mothers and fathers. This pledge was announced by the NUL Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olusola Fajana at the celebration of H.M. King Letsie III’s Silver Anniversary on the 19th November, 2022, in Maseru.
The celebration was in a form of a gala dinner coupled with auctions and pledges and the proceeds of the event went to the SOS Children’s Villages. At the dinner, big corporates pledged thousands (even hundreds of thousands) of Maloti towards supporting the SOS Children’s Villages. NUL was the only academic institution in attendance and would not sell itself short. “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I have, I give you,” Prof. Fajana started. “I pledge that NUL shall offer professional counselling services to the mothers and fathers of the Villages. Our three Faculties / Units which run health and counselling programmes will design a specific programme aimed at supporting the Village mothers and fathers to carry out the valuable and noble duty they perform; taking care of the children, selflessly”, he added.
Upon returning to his office, Prof. Fajana called on the Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Social Sciences and the Department of Student Affairs to come to the drawing board and design a counselling programme for the Village mothers and fathers. With time, the programme will extend to the children who stay at the Village.
