PVC briefs Media on NUL 80th Anniversary Celebration Plans

The National University of Lesotho (NUL), Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Kananelo Mosito has on Wednesday, April 02nd, steered a media briefing to stretch highlight on the major activities for the official announcement of NUL 80th anniversary.

The official announcement will be presided by the Chancellor of the National University of Lesotho, King Letsie III, on April 08th 2025, in the remarkable celebration to be held at Roma campus.

Professor Mosito started by indicating that NUL was first established on the 08th April 1945 as Pius XII Catholic College, which then led to the formation of University of Botswana Lesotho and Swaziland (UBLS) till currently when is now called the National University of Lesotho.

The Pro-Vice Chancellor said on the official announcement will marked major activities to be spearheaded by his Majesty, King Letsie III, as the Chancellor of the National University of Lesotho.

“The major events for the day comprises the official speech to be delivered by His Majesty King Letsie III, while the complementary speeches will be made by the Minister of Education and Training, the Principal Chief of Ha Maama, the Archbishop of Maseru as the head of Roman Catholic Church, representatives of the Chinese Confucius Institute and the NUL Alumni” PVC said.

Prior to the official speeches, the NUL Vice- Chancellor will give welcome remarks, while the Pro-Vice Chancellor will also give background on the 80th Anniversary.

The PVC also highlighted that this remarkable event will be marked by unveiling sculpture and planting the ceremonial tree, that will be officiated by King Letsie III, as the Chancellor of the University. After the unveiling of NUL sculpture, the Chinese Confucius Institute plaque will also be unveiled by Chinese Ambassador to Lesotho.

During the same media briefing, the Director of Communications and Marketing, Mrs. ‘Mamosa Moteetee pointed out that throughout this 80th anniversary year, NUL will be hosting a series of events namely; seminars and conferences, tree planting in the six campuses of the National University of Lesotho, and activities that will showcase academic programs, research endeavours and community engagement initiatives.

The upcoming official announcement celebration will be attended by various stakeholders, dignitaries, communities and students.
