Staff Faculty: Law

Dr. Tsietsi’s main area of specialization is International Economic Law (IEL). This encompasses International Trade Law, International Investment Law, and International Finance. She teaches the compulsory foundational IEL course ‘Legal Aspects of Economic Development’ in the LL.B. programme. She convenes WTO Law, African Regional Integration, and International Investment Law in the LLM programme. Administratively, she has served as Faculty Tutor, Head of Department as well as Postgraduate Studies Coordinator. She is Co-Chair of the University’s World Trade Organization Chair. She has coached students in several regional and international moot court competitions, including the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition on World Trade Organization Law. Her research interests include: WTO law and African regional integration, in general. Most specifically, trade facilitation, trade in services, and gender and trade.

Dr. Ramokanate is the Head and member of the Department of Private Law. At undergraduate level, he lectures Banking & Insurance Law. At postgraduate level, he lectures Legal Research Methods, Electronic Transactions Law and Advanced Banking Law. He also delivers models in the Certificate of Proficiency in Insurance. In addition to his lecturing duties, Dr Ramokanate is the editor-in-chief of the Lesotho Law Journal, and the Chairman of the FOL Research Committee.

Dr. Kometsi has been with the Faculty of Law since 2006 as a lecturer in the Law of Contract, Law of Special Contracts, Environmental law, Law of Export Trade, Legal Methods and Systems, and supervised LLB dissertations on various subjects. His research interests are in Commercial law, Customary law, Labour law and Human Rights. He is currently working on a paper on Insurance law. Dr. Kometsi is a devoted philanthropist initiating a number of community service projects at the same time initiating his students in community engagement and service. He has a keen interest in exploration and revival of traditional dispute resolution method. In this context he has established an annual symposium fondly referred to as KHOTLA. He also engages students in various extra-curriculum activities intended to horn the students debating, public speaking and community development skills. In this regard he has helped establish the first Litigation Club at the University, the first Debate club of the Faculty of Law and annual visitations to nearby schools and villages to give clothing and legal awareness campaigns. Kometsi is a staunch advocate of human rights. He has dedicated his time to representing minority groups such as ebaPhuthi, and thus acts as Chairman of their association, Libadla le baPhuthi, an association that seeks to promote interests of ebaPhuthi as a minority ethnic group in Lesotho.

Mrs. Thamae has served as Head of the Department of Private Law since 2016 to present date. She earlier served as Tutor and Chief Tutor from 2010 to 2016. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty and she teaches Special Contracts, Insolvency Law and Intellectual Property. She has also taught the Law of Property. She has supervised final year students in the mentioned areas of Law. She is the Coordinator of the Faculty’s Postgraduate programmes including the Master of Laws (LLM) and Postgraduate Diploma in Labour Law (Conciliation & Arbitration). She is also the Editor in Chief of the Lesotho Law Journal. She was appointed as Prosecutor for the Senate Committee on Discipline in 2013 and continues to serve in that position. She has presided over several disciplinary hearings involving the university staff members.
