Staff Faculty: Department of Nursing

Mr. Phiri holds Masters of Nursing Science in Community Health, minor; nursing education. He joined the National University of Lesotho in 2018 as a Clinical Supervisor, responsible for nursing and midwifery practicum, clinical laboratory management and clinical supervision and mentoring of students at clinical health institutions. Mr Phiri is registered with Lesotho Nursing Council. He is a part-lecturer at Institute of Extra Murals Studies and an examination moderator at National Health Training College. As a Community Health Nurse, his research interests are on; home based care, application of community health models to manage (at primary healthcare level) .Communicable and Non-Communicable diseases more prevalent in Sub Saharan Africa.

Mr Maselinyane is currently working as a Clinical Supervisor under the Department of Nursing at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) since 2018. He completed his Masters in Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Care in 2023 and his degree in BSc in General Nursing and Midwifery in 2017. In 2023, he commenced working as a part-time lecturer for Bachelor of Nursing Science programme offered at Institution of Extra Moral Studies (IEMS). Ever since joining NUL, he has been actively involved in midwifery curriculum development and review activities. Before joining NUL, he worked at St. Andrews health centre where he accumulated most of the basic experience guiding his clinical supervision. Mr Maselinyane has worked both directly and indirectly with non-governmental organizations which include UNFPA, EGPAF, UNICEF, ICAP and JHPEIGO. The areas of research he is interested in are maternal and neonatal health, HIV, gender equalities and family planning.

Ms Nthabane is a midwifery lecture facilitating modules in the Bachelor’s of Science – Nursing and Midwifery and Master’s in Advanced Midwifery and Neonatal Nursing programmes. She has been working as a midwifery lecturer for 20 years at Scott College of Nursing and was coopted by the Ministry of Health – Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) programme to assist in trainings and review of guidelines for adaptation by the country (Lesotho). She is currently the representative of Academicians in the QUAD (Four Pillars of Nursing and Midwifery namely; Education, Practice, Association and Regulation) hence coordinating the national review of the Midwifery programme for six Nursing Training Institutions (NTIs). Ms Nthabane is the treasurer of the Independent Midwives Association Lesotho (IMAL) and member of the East Central and Southern African College of Nursing and Midwifery (ECSACONM) fellowship programme. She has passion in SRH and maternal and neonatal health research. She has presented in symposiums and conferences including Lesotho Nursing and Midwifery Conference and ECSACONM.

She previously worked as a Clinical Supervisor and a lecturer at Maluti Adventist College and is lecturing nursing care of adults with medical conditions (with its practical module), children with medical conditions (with its practical module) and pathophysiology. Ms. Libuseng Moureen Rathobei is a lecturer and a researcher at the National University of Lesotho (NUL). She is co-teaching two courses per semester in the Masters’ in Psychiatric Nursing Program, and also co-supervises Masters’ students’ researches. She is also teaching the undergraduate Degrees at NUL and Bachelor in Nursing Science at IEMS. She is a researcher who is currently enrolled for PhD-Nursing at the University of KwaZulu Natal. She is registered as a member of Research International Society “Golden Key International Honour Society”, Lesotho Nursing Council and Lesotho Nurses Association.

Ms Maselobe Lebona holds a Master of Arts in Nursing Science and a BSc. Nursing and Midwifery. She joined the National University of Lesotho Department of Nursing in September 2013 as the first Clinical Supervisor (Supported by ICAP-NEPI). She is now a Lecturer involved in the teaching of various courses in the BSc General Nursing and Midwifery program. Her research interests are in trends in HIV, trends in depression and anxiety, child nutrition, burnout in nursing students, clinical simulation.

Ms Damane has been engaged in Nursing Education since 2008 and currently working at The National University of Lesotho as a Lecturer in BSc Nursing and Midwifery and Bachelor of Nursing Science Programmes. She is the Faculty Representative in the Central Admissions Committee of the NUL since academic year 2022. She worked at Scott College of Nursing as a Nurse Educator from July 2008 until February 2019. During her tenure at the College, she was nominated to be the Head of the Diploma in General Nursing Programme from academic year 2012 to 2015. She was highly engaged in capacity building activities by CHE in preparation for the first accredition of Institutions of Higher Learning in Lesotho. She is an active member of the Lesotho Nursing Council and currently a Board member serving in the Credentials Committee. Her research interests include issues relating to Adult, adolescent and child Mental Health and Women’s Health.

Ms. Amelia Mashea obtained her Masters Degree at University of Sydney Australia and a Bachelors Degree at Potchefstroom University in South Africa. She is currently working as a lecturer at the National University of Lesotho since 2016 to date. She worked as a Senior Tutor at National Health Training College for nine years. She served the Ministry of Health where she worked as Nurse/ Midwife from 1993 to 2016. She is a member of several committees in the University, Ministry of Health, Lesotho Nursing Council and Professional Organizations. Her research interest is in health related issues. She has several publications. She attended several seminars and conferences locally, regionally, and internationally. She is registered with the Lesotho Nursing Council and is a member of professional bodies.

Ms Masakoane holds a Master of Nursing Science in Adult Health Nursing obtained in 2003 and a Bachelor of Education in Nursing obtained in 1998 (both from the University of Botswana). She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Higher Education obtained from the National University of Lesotho in 2022. She also holds Diploma in General nursing and Diploma in Midwifery both obtained from Roma college of Nursing in Lesotho in 1990 and 1992 respectively. She is registered with Lesotho Nursing Council as a Registered Nurse Educator, a Registered Midwife, and a Registered Nurse. She has demonstrated interest and skills in all the four paradigms of Nursing (Nursing Practice, Education; Administration; Research). She has extensively practiced both Nursing and Midwifery in Lesotho; with experience in rural Health Centres and placement in rural and urban, including referral hospitals of the country. She has nineteen years of practicing Nursing Education with experience of teaching in Diploma programmes for eleven years and currently in Nursing and Midwifery Degree programme for eight years. She is involved in both theoretical and clinical instruction of different courses. In Research Education she has supervised many midwifery and many General nursing students’ (both Diploma and Degree) researches. She has been involved in different institutional and national committees such as St. Joseph’s hospital Mortality review committee; ART committee; Staff Wellness committee and others within that hospital. She was involved in quality assurance in Education as a focal person for Roma College of Nursing during the beginning work of CHE Lesotho till January, 2015; was NUL Faculty of Health Sciences’ Quality Assurance Coordinator and member of NUL Quality Assurance Committee (February, 2019 – February, 2021). She was a member of Higher Education sector HIV/AIDS committee; and presently still a member of NUL AIDS Committee. She was involved in Nursing education research as a member of Lesotho Nurse Educators’ Research Committee; has been a member of National Health Research Committee since its inception to 2019, and was an external member of Roma College of Nursing Research Committee form 2019. She is still a member of the FOHS Nursing Department Research Committee. She is an active member of Professional Nursing Organisations Nationally (LNA) and Regionally (ECSACONM).

Joined NUL in 2001, a Pioneer in the establishment of FOHS. Have taught a number of courses that include Anatomy, Health Management, community Health Nursing, community midwifery, Health Sociology, Health System Research, Sexual & Reproductive Health and Rights, Midwifery(Pregnancy). Held position of headship for two consecutive terms. Currently I am BNS ODL program coordinator since its establishment in 2021. Ms. Regina has a record of publications and research reports, contributing to the body of knowledge in her field. She has presented papers at conferences and seminars. Her research interests include health systems, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, and food security, among others, with a focus on health systems in Lesotho. A Member in the Reproductive Health technical committees for the Ministry of Health.
