Staff Faculty: Health Sciences

Mr. Molupe Lehohla is a senior lecturer in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Pharmacy. He is responsible for teaching basic sciences, Physiology and Biochemistry across the departments of the Faculty as well as supervising undergraduate research projects Research interests include neurophysiology, diabetes and its microvascular complications such as diabetic neuropathy, nephropathy and retinopathy.

Mopa A. Sooro serves as a Lecturer in Pharmacology and Therapeutics within the Department of Pharmacy at the National University of Lesotho. She is registered with the Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council as a Pharmacologist. She contributes to institutional research governance as a member of the NUL Institutional Research Board (IRB). Ms. Sooro holds professional membership in several pharmaceutical societies including the Pharmaceutical Society of Lesotho (PSL) and the Southern African Society of Oncology Pharmacists (SASOph). Her research interests are in personalized healthcare in cancer.

Mr. Rasemoko Polile is registered with Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council as a Pharmacist and registered with South African society for basic and Clinical pharmacology (SASBCP) as a pharmacologist. I am currently working as a lecturer in Clinical pharmacy in the Department of Pharmacy (NUL), and I’m also a PhD student affiliated with UKZN school of Health Sciences. My research interests focus in the management of non-communicable disease complications, antimicrobial resistance in clinical settings, artificial intelligence in screening and diagnosis of non-communicable disease; mental health disorders in clinical settings; traditional medicines phytochemical analysis; monitoring of end-stage renal disease patients using haemodialysis; drug utilization review in psychotropics and ; pre-clinical studies and in vitro testing of efficacy and toxicity of herbal medicines.

Mr. Oriel K. Hlokoane is registered with the Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council as a Pharmacist. He is currently a medicinal chemistry lecturer in the department of pharmacy, faculty of health sciences, NUL. His research interests are to isolate and characterize bioactive compounds from the flora of Lesotho, towards discovery of new antibiotics that exhibit good activities against clinically –isolated strains of resistant bacteria.

I am the Head of Pharmacy Department and a Senior Lecturer and specializing in Pharmaceutical Chemistry. My research focuses on the phytochemical profiling and antimicrobial testing of Lesotho’s medicinal plants, alongside the synthesis and evaluation of protein kinase inhibitors as prospective anticancer agents, and I am passionate about harnessing indigenous biodiversity for drug discovery. I currently teach core pharmaceutical chemistry courses, mentor undergraduate students, and supervise laboratory-based research projects.

Mr. Molungoa Sello is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Pharmacy at the National University of Lesotho (NUL), with over a decade of academic, research, and consultancy experience in public health, pharmacy practice, and pharmacovigilance. Mr. Sello's research interests are centred around pharmacovigilance, antimicrobial resistance, and chronic disease management in resource-limited settings. He has led and contributed to studies evaluating pharmacovigilance systems, medicine use patterns, and cancer care access in Lesotho. Through his academic and policy engagements, Mr. Sello aims to bridge the gap between research and practice in medicine safety and pharmaceutical care, particularly in the context of Southern Africa’s public health challenges.

Prof Ramathebane is a registered pharmacist with Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council (LMDPC) and an associate professor in pharmacy practice. She is one of the the pioneers who started the Faculty of Health Sciences and Pharmacy program. She also started pharmacy at a Paediatric AIDS Clinic as a consultant pharmacist. She was also involved in starting the first cancer chemotherapy treatment in Lesotho. Her research interests lie in primary and community health for communicable and non-communicable diseases, e.g. HIV, TB and cancer. Again, her other research interests include developing formulations, including oral and topical preparations for pain relief. She has been involved in different partnerships with different universities in the African continent and health facilities in the country. She has vast experience in data analysis and use for healthcare workers. Together with other colleagues, they have developed training materials for data analysis and use. Training of all cadres for health took place between 2022 and 2023. In addition, she has experience in developing a community of practice (COP) in data analysis and use.

Dr. Lineo Maja is a senior lecturer and practicing pharmacist registered with the Lesotho Medical, Dental and Pharmacy Council as a Pharmacist. She is currently the Postgraduate Coordinator for the Faculty of Health Sciences and lectures in Pharmacy Practice and Master of Pharmacy in the Department of Pharmacy. Her research interests include Non-communicable and Communicable Diseases, Health Systems, and Rational Drug Use. Additionally, she focuses on research related to community pharmacy service provision and regulation, Medicines Use Review and Prescription Interventions in patients with chronic diseases, Pharmacovigilance, and Public Health. Dr. Maja has experience in grants management, with core skills in proposal development, budgeting, donor reporting, project implementation, and results-based monitoring and evaluation of health and education programmes.
