Assoc. Prof. ‘Maseabata Ramathebane
‘Maseabata V. Ramathebane is an Associate Professor and pharmacist with a deep focus on HIV, TB, and cancer treatment at the primary healthcare level. She has played a pivotal role in establishing the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Pharmacy Department at the National University of Lesotho. Since 2014, she has served as the chairperson of the Institutional Review Board at the university.
Prof. Ramathebane holds a Master’s in Pharmacy Practice with an emphasis on Pharmacoeconomics and obtained her PhD in Pharmacy Practice, focusing on implementation sciences, in 2020 from North-West University. She has also earned a Master of Pharmacy (Honours) from Robert Gordon University and completed a course in Data Analytics in Healthcare Management at the same institution in 2024.
Her professional journey includes roles as Senior Lecturer and Lecturer at the Roma Campus of the National University of Lesotho, as well as positions at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Lesotho Flying Doctor Services. She has held significant administrative roles, including Head of the Pharmacy Department and Chairperson of the University’s Research and Conference Committee.
Beyond her academic and administrative responsibilities, Prof. Ramathebane has contributed to community service through her involvement with various organizations, including the Technical Working Group for the National Medicines Regulatory Authority and the Narcotics Bureau of Lesotho. She has served on multiple boards and committees, such as the National AIDS Commission and the Lesotho Medical, Dental, and Pharmacy Council.
As the principal investigator of several significant projects, she led the PERSUADE initiative, which aims to enhance analytical capacity and data use for HIV, TB, and malaria in Southern and Eastern Africa. Prof. Ramathebane has played a key role in establishing the Senkatana Clinical Oncology Clinic and has conducted numerous studies on cancer care in Lesotho. Prof. Ramathebane has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles addressing important public health issues in Lesotho, particularly in cancer care and HIV/AIDS. These articles highlight barriers faced by patients in accessing services and strive to improve healthcare quality within the country.
