Dean of Faculty of Education – Dr. Mahao A. Mahao
Dr. Mahao Mahao is the Dean of Faculty of Education and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Language and Social Education (LASED), Faculty of Education at the National University of Lesotho where he has dedicated 27 years to academic excellence.
He holds a PhD, MA in English Education and Honours in English from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). He also possesses a Postgraduate Diploma in Curriculum Design from the Open University of Tanzania as well as, a Bachelor of Education from the National University of Lesotho (NUL).
Dr. Mahao’s extensive leadership trajectory at NUL includes roles as LASED Head of Department, Faculty Postgraduate Coordinator, and member of the 14th NUL Council.
His expertise spans the pedagogy of Literature and Curriculum Studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Before joining NUL, he taught at a high school and, later, the Lesotho College of Education.
His research focuses on the intersection of digital technologies in teaching and learning Literature, English pedagogy, and modern linguistic frontiers such as Translanguaging.
Beyond academia, Dr. Mahao is a committed civic leader. As Chairperson of the Malealea Development Trust, he oversees a million-maloti budget funded by international donors to support education (through educational scholarships), orphans and vulnerable children, health, and livelihoods in Mafeteng.
Furthermore, he is a prolific commentator on Basotho national affairs, with a portfolio of 80 published articles (Opinion Columns) in the Lesotho Times (a local newspaper), bridging the gap between ivory-tower academia and public discourse.
